Mumbai, 26th Jan 2022: Pt.Uma Dutt Sharma. A freedom fighter born in 1914 was from a Family of Raj pandits and served the then begum of Meerut.He was just 16 years of age when he first was send to jail to rise against the British Raj,In 1930.
He played a crucial role in angrezo Bharat jhodo andola and was again put in jail with former Prime Minister Ch.Charan Singh,where he was given tanhai,a punishment which was considered most brutal.In 1946 He led the Congress Meeting in Meerut attended by Mahatma Gandhi, Sardar Patel,Neta ji and many more leaders.
In 1970 he became the state minister for Agriculture and husbandry in U.P and remained so for till 1973.Later years he was the President of Congress Meerut and decorated his life for well being of U.P.He still has a charitable hospital in Meerut by the name of PT.Uma dutt sharma managed by the Homeopathy Association of Meerut.
We spoke to His Daughter Asha Rani Sharma,Who now lives in Noida with her Children.She quoted," I wish every citizen of the country a very happy Republic day,also grateful to all are forces.I would humbly pay my respects to all the freedom fighters and Soldiers on this wonderful day for keeping our nation's pride.
